Online English 10/11/12

As student-athletes will only have space at their regular high schools for 4 core academic courses per school year, individuals who are in French immersion or who want to take additional courses (generally sciences or electives) may free up an additional block in their timetable by taking English online through the Canadian Sport School Victoria. Student-athletes who enrol in English online through the Canadian Sport School Victoria will have access to the online English teacher who will visit the CSS once per week to help provide individual support in English 10, 11 or 12.

Academic Standards

At the CSS, we believe that student-athletes should endeavor to pursue excellence in all areas of life, including academics. While we understand that student-athletes may have different academic abilities, we believe that all student-athletes have the potential to demonstrate excellent work habits at both CSS and at their regular schools. Therefore our academic standards require that our student-athletes earn all “Excellent” (E) and/or “Good” (G) for work habit marks on their report cards. Student-athletes who earn a “Satisfactory” (S) or a “Needs Improvement” (N) would be placed on academic probation for one term to give them an opportunity to improve the work habit mark. A progressive disciplinary action would follow should students not be able to improve their work habit marks, including suspension and potential dismissal from the CSS program.

CSS Applicants may apply with deficient work habit standards, however applicants will not be admitted until their final report card in June shows all E’s and G’s.

Student-Athletes are encouraged to be proactive and speak with their teachers to gain a clear understanding of what each of their teachers require to meet “Excellent” or “Good” work habit marks in each class. We encourage athletes to check-in regularly with their teachers for personal feedback and to ensure that there are no surprises on report card day.

Academic Planning

Student-athletes, particularly those who are in French Immersion or who would elect to take more than the required science graduation requirements, may need to be strategic about how they make their course selections or graduation plans. Student-athletes who have academic concerns or would like support in planning their timetables should contact their local Canadian Sport School Teacher to discuss their academic goals and plans.

Mid-Day Transportation

The Canadian Sport School provides transportation during the middle part of the day for students who chose to opt-in to this fee for service. AM students are transported to their high schools and PM students are transported to the Canadian Sport School from their high schools.
