VANCOUVER — Each year, in addition to naming our Player of the Year, the selection committee of the B.C. Secondary Schools Girls Basketball Association picks its Super 16, a listing of players it feels are the best group of players each year the province.
So for the third straight year, in alphabetical order, here is the Super 16 list.
Zion Corrales-Nelson (5-7 guard)
Grade: 12
School: St. Thomas More (Burnaby)
Numbers: 13.8 points, 5.9 steals, 3.3 rebounds
The skinny: Makes game changing plays with her quickness and anticipation. Had games this season of 10 and 13 steals. As good as she is on the court, is a blue-chip sprinter headed for collegiate career with California Golden Bears.

Ashlyn Day (5-11 forward)
Grade: 11
School: Immaculta (Kelowna)
Numbers: 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals
The skinny: Has started on Mustangs senior varsity since Grade 9, has made the B.C. Top 15 each year. Touted for her maturity and feel for the game, is a sniper from all parts of the court, especially beyond the arc. Nickname is Ash ‘All’ Day.
Sophie de Goede (6-0 forward)
School: Oak Bay (Victoria)
Grade: 11
Numbers: 21 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, six steals
The skinny: A national rugby talent whose motor and physical play have made her think twice about which sport is her specialty. Tireless with a team-first ethic, she also has one of the highest ceilings for refinement after high school career is over.
Savannah Dhaliwal (6-0, guard/forward)
Grade: 11
School: Panorama Ridge (Surrey)
Numbers: 24 points, 14 rebounds, 3.2 steals
The skinny: Team’s leader, she can hit the three, penetrate or excel from post-up position. As impressive as her offensive numbers have been this season for the Thunder, she is also the team’s best defender.
Louise Forsyth (6-1 guard)
School: Brookswood (Langley)
Grade: 11
Numbers: 27.2 points, 9 rebounds 4 assists
The skinny: A monstrous talent whose ceiling is still huge, she might be the most improved player in the entire province this season. Agile, long and athletic, her elite numbers and her toughness make her a game-changing force.
Taya Hanson (5-9 guard)
School: Kelowna
Grade: 10
Numbers: 23 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.3 steals, 2.5 assists
The skinny: The youngest player in this season’s B.C. Top 15, she has drawn interest from top U.S. schools including Stanford. Work ethic has helped her make a quick climb to the top of her graduating Class of 2018.
Claudia Hart (6-0 guard/forward)
School: Seycove (North Vancouver)
Grade: 12
Numbers: 18 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists
The skinny: Brings a quiet confidence to the team with maturity and coachability among her many strengths. Ability to shoot the ball as well as handle it with poise makes her an all-time player in the Seyhawks program.
In 2016-17: Simon Fraser (NCAA)
Nicole Hart (6-2 post)
School: Immaculata (Kelowna)
Grade: 12
Numbers: 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks
The skinny: Also a provincial all-star on the volleyball court this season, she has been a dominant player on both sides of the ball for the Mustangs. Great finisher in the paint, she also loves to show athleticism by running and finishing in transition.
Aislinn Konig (5-10 guard)
School: Brookswood (Langley)
Grade: 12
Numbers: 34.6 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists
The skinny: As complete a guard as this province has ever seen. Incredible numbers topped only by her intense work ethic. Her team shoots for third straight B.C. title, while she is in position to win third straight MVP award.
In 2016-17: North Carolina State (NCAA)
Jessica Jones (5-10 guard)
School: R.A. McMath (Richmond)
Grade: 12
Numbers: 19 points
The skinny: A very natural feel for the game, she is one of the very best shooters in the province, but her vision on the court is also a huge plays and makes her an premier passer into the post. Great competitive drive and always unselfish.

Madison Landry: (6-0 guard)
School: Duchess Park (Prince George)
Grade: 12
Numbers: n/a
The skinny: Unquestioned offensive ability both inside and out and has the hands of a wide receiver. Tremendous defensive tenacity, with the ability to shut down foes at any spot on the court.
In 2016-17: University of Northern B.C. (CIS)
Ozi Nwabuko (5-11 forward)
School: Riverside (Port Coquitlam)
Grade: 12
Numbers: 16.8 points, 11 rebounds, 7 steals
The skinny: Her offensive numbers impress, but more than anythign else, she has the mindset and the athletic ability to stay in front of the best competition on defence. Relentless motor with perhaps best quickness in the province.
In 2016-17: Simon Fraser (NCAA)
Shae Sanchez (5-9 guard)
School: Riverside (Port Coquitlam)
Grade: 11
Numbers: 18.2 points, 4.6 assists, 4 steals per game
The skinny: Prodigious scorers and playmaker, she has scored at least 30 points in a game five times this season for the Rapids. Best described as a street-smart player with a real nose for the hoop. Hasn’t missed provincials in her senior varsity career.
Kendal Sands (5-9 guard)
School: Dr. Charles Best (Coquitlam)
Grade: 11
Numbers: 12 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, four steals
The skinny: One of the top all-round point guards in B.C. as a Grade 11, her usual duty includes guarding the top opposition player regardless of position. A steadying force for her Blue Devils.
Sage Stobbart (6-2 forward)
School: Seycove (North Vancouver)
Grade: 11
Numbers: 20 points, 14 rebounds
The skinny: Has a great rebounder’s frame and mentality, but also has soft hands inside, loves to run the floor, and is developing three-point range. Selfless and easy-going nature make her a player of influence on her team.
Jessica Zawada (5-10 forward)
School: R.A. McMath (Richmond)
Grade: 12
Numbers: Not available
The skinny: Tenacious rebounder, courageous teammate who has always played bigger than her size. Very good quickness and versatility, she gives her team even greater depth by being able to guard a multitude of positions on the floor.
